If you don’t know already, McCain got LOLBBQ’d* last night in the election; unlike the last two elections, it didn’t even stay interesting very long. Once Obama won Pennsylvania and Iowa, I stopped paying much attention.
Should you be Republican, you can be relieved the GOP needs to pick up only 1 of the 4 open seats in the Senate to allow filibusters.
If you are white, this article on what not to do in light of Obama’s victory is required reading. Especially note number 5.
*Aware that according to urbandictionary.com, I’m using “LOLBBQ” incorrectly. I’ve always known it as a synonym for “pwn”, and will stubbornly continue to use it as such.
Even better is the thought that only 76 more days are left of the worst president EVER!
And if you are black:

Between Obama and Californians authorizing another 12 Billion in debt this election I’ll be lucky if my new tax obligation leaves me with enough $$$ to visit any chess tournaments.
im curious. am i the only one who thinks obama is not black? i mean culturally. he is not black. not that i know what it means to be culturally black but. i don’t think he is black. i think we happened to elect someone with very dark skin and big ears. who hopefully is qualified for the job.
Hi I like you blog so good! Please to link at me any times!
@Blunderprone: Warren G. Harding bitterly disputes your allegations of Bush being the worst president ever.
@Sworn Enemy: Unfortuantely, I don’t believe there are any black readers of LEP.
@Likesforests: But the $12 billion will be spent on Good Things, right?
@Annie: That’s a great point. We didn’t hear any talk of Obama not being “black enough”. If his skin color were white, he might be indistinguishable from his collegaues.
Maybe that’s why they made sure the media knew he played hoops; to establish his “hood” credentials. 😉
@Derek: Interesting. So did the CSO editor requirements state “Knowledge of English grammar optional”?
And I’ll link to you if you link to me!
“culturally black”? what? I hope you’re not serious. maybe he would’ve fit the stereotype better if he was seen munching on fried chicken, yes?
Actually I was serious…but I certainly meant no offense, I am sorry. There wasn’t really a stereotype I was after, but I guess what I meant by “culturally black” is…he wasn’t raised by a black family, that’s all. He was raised by white grandparents and white mother. And somehow…I highly doubt Obama experienced much racial discrimination. Surely not more than the average person of colow, and definitely not more than Ann Nixon Cooper.
I just think that all this fuss about “the first black president” is stupid. How does Obama’s dark skin contribute to his Presidency? It doesn’t.
The point I’m trying to make is, the true accomplishment of this election lies in a move towards progressive policies, and a call for all citizens to give more (this both excites and worries me, but we shall see what Obama means by this).
To say there are different white and black cultures in the United States is perfectly valid.
While, of course, blacks and whites cannot be assumed to be monolithic based on race, there are general differences in experience, tastes, mannerisms, food, etc.
annie: now that I can agree with, and very much so. the points you just made are much clearer to me than your first post, I guess I misinterpreted your first comment. One last point: I think a lot of people that talk about “the first black president” do not necessarily think his skin color will contribute to his presidency – they are just amazed at the fact that an african american was voted to the highest office in the country, when only some 50 years ago black people weren’t allowed to vote in some southern states.
Donnie: no argument there. what I do have an issue with is when people say or imply “all whites are like this” or “all blacks are like this”, which is what I understood annie’s first comment to imply – wrongfully so, as she just clarified.
Hey Donnie..technically… YOU are a black reader of LEP. heh heh.
Donnie’s black? 🙂
Well, a quarter black. This doesn’t mean the truism “white men can’t jump” doesn’t apply to me, just not as much.
progressive policies, and a call for all citizens to give more (this both excites and worries me, but we shall see what Obama means by this).
annie, this simply means that you’ll be required to volunteer, that true equality requires that some “give” for the common good and some receive, and that anyone who tries to make a Virtue out of Selfishness will have their copy of Atlas Shrugged confiscated.
Also: My Dear Blunderpone, you and I were both around from 1977-81 and thus, didn’t you mean the second-worst? Donnie: Harding arguably died to early in his term to be technically eligible. 🙂
I feel certain, Comrade Annie, that you will welcome this opportunity to do your duty in our great cultural drive, as we all do.
We shall see the difference between what I have defined as my duty and what has been defined for me as my duty. If that makes any sense.
likesforests… hahahahahaah 🙂
@Wahrheit: Wow. You’re around. Good to hear from you.
Re: Carter vs Bush. I’m not sure Carter was worse. In fact, in some ways he should appeal to today’s conservatives more than Bush:
1. Carter at least attempted to rein in spending — losing the support of Congress in his zealousness to do so.
2. Achieved some deregulation of industries like airlines and communications.
3. Cut size of White House staff by 1/3.
While I don’t know enough to say Carter was a good or bad president, it’s safe to say not all the bad stuff that happened is because of him. Same with Bush; he gets blamed for stuff out of his control.
@likesforests: Just think of it as a Great Leap Forward.
@Annie: If your duty includes cooking home-made meals and delivering them to my front door, that should suffice.
