As a brigandish and high-handed imperialist, I decided to revisit the KCNA in a brisk way.
The KCNA is the official North Korean news site. Yes, they really write like that. It hasn’t changed in the last six months. In fact, the stories seem to be exactly the same, except for the one about children kicking butt in Paduk (aka Go).
A couple thoughts to keep you inspired on a hump day:
“Kim Jong Il provided the historic June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration, a programme for implementing the joint declaration in all fields, thus converting the north-south relations into those of reconciliation and cooperation and ushering in a new era of reunification in which the Koreans powerfully push forward the movement for national reunification in the idea of “By our nation itself” and with the will to embody it.”
“Great irony is that Japan, a political dwarf not entitled to talk about human rights, took the lead in railroading the anti-DPRK “resolution” through the recent session, behaving as if it were a ‘human rights judge.'”
What you need to check out is NKNews (http://www.nk-news.net/extras/insult_generator.php). Love those guys.
one student asked the zen master: ‘how does the wind move?’ to which he answered curtly: ‘it is your mind that moves!#$%’
fast forward. discussions as to the two koreas (i used to live there) and japan (lived there, too: furui mokuzo kenchikubutsu benkyoshimashita!), infringement on human rights in china, free tibet with eifal tower in the background with appropriate yellow and red sacred flags, american domestic issues such as endemic disparity between rich and poor. discussion of columbian and bolivia, the mexican borter, pakistan elections, socialists in spain… etc, etc, etc.
it is not specific countries that transgress human dignity, but a massive wave across the planet that few are escaping. yes, some more, some less, but all the same: humanity a minor subset to capital markets, unsustainable ecological infanticide, in a red blue white head cybernetic death of vast galaxcies. fast food, Whole Foods entitlement but SUV driving holy-rollers. i even bet 20% of the folks who advocate recycling drive big cars and leave too many lights on…
i don’t know about kim jong il. i used to think he was a bad guy, but he’s got those glasses, the same glasses worn by bono, who is a big humanitarian. i think those glasses are like the various colored ribbons worn by various groups to show they support a point of view. so maybe kim isn’t as bad as everyone makes him out to be. he was great in team america. “your braking my balls brix”
@Kate Dino: You bellicose flunkey, we will thwart your frantic attempts to stifle us!
@David K: As much as every country on Earth, er, “protects its own interests”, North Korea is certainly a rather unique case.
@chessloser: Team America! I still need to see that movie, dang it.
They say Kim is seriously into movies and wines. Hopefully Kim’s tastes in those is better than his taste in ocular enhancements.
