As we approach the presidential election in the United States, the ranks of the undecided are only slowly thinning.
The fun part about this? Even if you are a swing voter, the chances are pretty decent neither Obama nor McCain are trying to get your vote.
Let’s say you live in Texas and are undecided. Texas is solidly red and will vote for McCain. It’s something you could safely bet your life on. While there may be Obama volunteers doing their thing, from a strategic standpoint the campaign would be foolish to bother spending many resources in the state.
On the flipside, McCain’s Texas campaign could be a 15-minute pit stop in Abilene where he does nothing except burp, fart, and sniff his armpits. He’ll still carry the state 2-1.
Neither one of the campaigns really cares what Texas swing voters do. They will have no effect on the election.
Now replace Texas with the list of all states that are solidly behind one candidate to check to see who doesn’t count.
Electoral College FTL.
Am i glad i dont live in the States. The so called land of democratcy and only two persons of all of those so called political engaged people may run for president. Only the candidate of two parties get big media coverage, other candidates are not spoken of and unknown. With other words, America, a democratcy for the rich red and blue.
It’s strange that you call of swing states especially since ‘swingers’ has a different meaning, especially in dance and sex.
“where he does nothing except burp, fart, and sniff his armpits.”
– I’m not sure that Mr McCain would be able to get away with that.
Doesn’t Mr Bush already own the copyright on that particular speech?
No matter what, only 95 more days left for THE WORST PRESIDENT EVER!
How about that “Joe the plumber?” If he can’t figure out that buying a business worth over 250K means he can still deduct the costs to run it and show he earns what 95% of americans. Then he deserves to be taxed
you bring up a good point, why the heck would i haul myself out of bed, get in my car, burn expensive gas, stand in line to go pull a lever that in the big scheme of things will be a fart in the wind?
it’s kind of scary that our state is still a mccain state, even after the very obvious incompetence and more subtle ulterior agendas. *sigh* despite all this, it’s still the best country in the world. USA. USA. USA! 🙂
@Chesstiger: Despite all the problems, “the people” occasionally make a difference.
My main issue with being American is that the rest of the world assumes I’m too ignorant to spell “Ukrane” correctly.
@Anon: The armpit sniffing was McCain’s unique addition.
@Blunderprone: Apparently, it’s really Plumber Samuel. And he owes back taxes.
@Annie: Yeah, but Michelle Obama hates white people. (This is what my friend said, but I can’t find positive confirmation.)
since Obama’s an Arab, hating white folk is not so bad in comparison.
i’ve been watching youtube clips of people interviewed abut the election, and the misconceptions and straight up falsehoods (about both parties) are astonishing. Yes his name is “hussein”. are we going to not name our kids “charles” because of manson? timothy because of “mcveigh”? Geez.
Isn’t anyone the least bit nervous about having a far left democrat as president over the democrat controlled congress? I would feel a lot less nervous myself with a little more balance.
Just felt obligated to put something pro-mccain in this thread.
Hey Bruce,
For a LONG time the republicans had it all until 2006.
At least Obama took his education a little more serious. He’s not a cowboy. He does have a funny name but maybe its time to have a new direction?
blunderprone, I agree, but lets have the new direction be the one that is good, and not bad, for America. In other words, McCain for President!
HA! LOL..
McSame? I said, let’s have someone who took his education a little more seriously? McCain graduated 3rd from the bottom. Can we have a smart one this time?
I really don’t know much about their differences in academic success, but I would rather have a president with character and good policy and a record of accomplishment than a professor who is wrong on policy, and who’s character (it seems anyway) and whose record of accomplishments is less than inspiring. I really don’t have the time to get into a back and forth right now.
That’s OK… it’s cool. At least we know neither of us is a Swing voter!
Too true, makes me want to move to Florida or something. Thanks for understanding. My apologies, whether you took offense or not, rereading my last comment I think my ending words in particular were a bit acerbic. Also, although I was pressed for time on something, it would have been more accurate to say that I didn’t have the energy for it. I don’t know about you but it takes very little these days to give me political fatigue. This election is so looong.
Oh okay, let’s insult swing voters AND professors.
🙂
Is it OK if I don’t respond to this? Mostly everything that’s been said has been said already. (That sounds tautologous, but you know what I mean.)
