As a human who is inevitably aging one year per year, thoughts about what I want to do before dying or becoming incapacitated creep up from time to time.
“Bucket lists” can easily swell to unrealistic levels. So it’s a bit comforting to find activities that definitely, undoubtedly do not need to be added.
Billy Idol recounted brushes with death by intense heroin use. Realizing he had to get off that path, he tackled the problem in a way that has some logic.
“Once you’re trying to get off heroin, what do you go to? You go to something else. I started smoking crack to get off heroin,” Idol said.
And then he needed to stop doing crack (he’s been 20 years sober.) Good on him for finding a solution, of course. But it’s nice to receive additional confirmation that it is not necessary to experience the highs, so to speak, of heroin or cocaine before the end.
